Serendipity

Do you believe in fate? Do you believe that everything in this world that is supposed to happen will happen? Or do you believe something different?

There's no way to go around it in Serendipity – it was all meant to be, and there's nothing you can do to escape it.

Sara and Johnathon were both doing some shopping at Bloomingdale's in New York, and both reached for the last pair of black gloves. They were both in relationships at the time, but they still go off together and have a beautiful afternoon together – debating who would get the pair of gloves.

John was very interested in Sara, and vice versa, but Sara is from England and didn't think it would be possible for them to ever be. John asks her for some contact information – but Sara decides instead – they should put fate to the test to see if they were truly meant to be together.

Sara puts her name and number in a used book that floats from person to person and store to store, and John puts his name and number on a 5-dollar bill. They then put the book into a used book store, and give the 5 dollar bill to a newspaper sales man. Sara then tells John that she believes if those items ever come into their possession again, they were meant to be.

From this day on, John chases the fate that he is unsure of, and Sara will question if leaving her love life in the hands of fate was the right thing to do.

Personally, I do believe that in this world there is a certain amount of things that were meant to be. I do believe that we also have a certain amount of free will – and we make the bed we lay in. If we want something to come true in this life – it is up to us, but I do believe that the bigger things that are beyond our control will eventually come to us.

Serendipity is a beautiful movie that touches on the issues of free will vs. destiny, and is a romantic tale that tells us that we cannot escape love.
