The Last Song

Miley Cyrus stars alongside new sweetie – Liam Hemsworth – as main characters Ronnie Miller and Will Blakelee in The Last Song, based on the book by Nicholas Sparks. In this story, Ronnie Miller is sent by her mother to live with her withdrawn father on Tybee Island for the summer – even though she would rather be back home in New York. Having little in common between the two, they connect through the only thing both know - music.

Ronnie is hostile, angry, and builds a wall up between her and anyone she meets on her summer trip to Tybee Island. When Ronnie begins to protect a local turtles nest in danger, alongside recently met Will Blakelee, she discovers he might have more layers to him than she thought possible. An unsuspecting summer romance begins to unravel as Will quickly transforms into a whirlwind of a first love.

It is a life-changing summer for Ronnie, and she herself discovers that she has more layers than she ever knew. A movie of family ties, first loves, hidden secrets, and forgiveness – a storyline inspired by Nicholas Sparks never fails the audience.

But how was the movie as a whole? The audience didn't know what to expect with Miley Cyrus in a serious role like this after her fame from Disney's Hannah Montana. My opinion aside, from research on other reviewers' point-of-views, the general consensus was that she --– well –-- sucked. She has extreme difficulty conveying a broken heart, and the audience just cannot believe her in this role. However, her real-life relationship with fellow co-star Liam Hemsworth proved for a believable chemistry between the two lovebirds.

Acting aside – I believe that isn't the main ingredient in a good movie – this is another magical romance inspired by brilliant author, Nicholas Sparks. I really enjoyed the movie, and you just might too!
